Esker Arts has some exciting Eagla Fest news! Harry Kümel, the director of Daughters of Darkness will be joining us for the screening of his incredible film!

The remarkable Belgian film director Harry Kümel made his feature film debut in 1968. Monsieur Hawarden tells the story of a wealthy Austrian woman who disguises herself as a man to avoid prosecution. His lesbian vampire film Les lèvres rouges (1971) grew into a cult film. Legendary filmmaker Orson Welles was willing to play a role in his Malpertuis (1971-1973). Surrealism and a bizarre romanticism are hallmarks of Kümel’s oeuvre. He lectured at the Film and Television Academy in Amsterdam for many years, counting Martin Koolhoven and Mike van Diem among his students. A Euro-horror classic,

Daughters of Darkness is an opulent fever dream, weaving a Sapphic subtext and feminist undercurrent beneath its baroque surface.
