On Saturday 22nd June, the Art in the Landscape - Festival of Change events originally scheduled to take place earlier in the year proceeded ahead at Lough Boora.

Eileen Hutton led guests on a guided walk for Soil Portraits of Lough Boora. Hutton discussed the temporary installation of soil chromatography ‘trail markers’ located along sections of the Sculpture Trail in Lough Boora.

Based on scientific methodology, soil chromatography is an alternative photography process that creates a ‘soil portrait’ on light sensitive filter paper. It can be used to assess the general health of soil, including soil structure, biological diversity, organic matter content, humus, and minerals available for plants.

This was followed by Lá na Móna, a co-curated cross art form collaboration between Rita Duffy visual artist and Nuala Hayes performer/storyteller. A series of interactive performances and happenings, with music, storytelling and more.

This walking theatrical experience will took inspiration from one of Offaly Playwright Marina Carr’s most celebrated characters ‘Catwoman’ from the renowned play By the Bog of Cats and featured special guests Séan Ryan, Eimear Burke and Michael Creagh, who appeared at various points of the guided theatrical walk. Local actors and musicians from drama groups in the area also featured in the performance.
